Make Swimming Pool Hair Care – Recipe

2 tablespoons baking soda
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon mild shampoo
Mix together all the ingredients until well blended.  Wet hair and massage mixture well into hair and scalp, making sure hair ends are coated. Cover hair with a plastic bag or shower cap and leave on for 30 minutes. Rinse hair well and shampoo as usual.  Repeat treatment as needed.

Yield: 2 ounces, enough for 1 treatment

Make Natural Hair Rinses – Recipe

1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup chopped fresh mint
1 tablespoon chopped fresh lavender leaves and flowers
1 cup water
Mix together all the ingredients and let sit overnight.  Strain before using.  To use, simply pour over your wet, clean hair, massage well into your scalp, then rinse with warm or cool water.

For Color:

Blondes: 1/4 cup strong chamomile tea or juice of 1 lemon and 1 cup water

Redheads: 1/4 cup strong red hibiscus tea

Brunettes: 1/4 cup strong sage or rosemary tea

For Shine:

1 tablespoon baking soda mixed with 1 cup water or 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar and 1 cup water

Yield: each recipe makes enough for 1 rinse

Make Basic Shampoo – Recipe

1/2 cup water
1/2 cup liquid soap
1/2 teaspoon light vegetable oil (omit if you have very oily hair)
Mix together all the ingredients.  Pour the shampoo into a clean squeeze bottle or plastic container.  Shampoo as you would normally and rinse well with cool water.

Yield: 8 ounces


For Normal Hair

Beer:  Place 1 cup of beer in a saucepan and boil until reduced to 1/4 cup.  Add this to 1 cup of Basic Shampoo and stir well.

Egg:  Mix together 1 tablespoon of Basic Shampoo and 1 raw egg.  Use this mixture to shampoo your hair.

For Oily Hair

Lemon Juice:  Add 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice to 1 cup of Basic Shampoo and stir well.

Aloe Vera gel: Add 1/4 cup of aloe vera gel to 1 cup of Basic Shampoo and stir well.

For Dry Hair

Honey: Mix together 1 tablespoon of honey and t tablespoon of Basic Shampoo.

Jojoba oil: Add 2 tablespoons of jojoba oil and 1/4 cup water to 1 cup of Basic Shampoo.  Shampoo as usual and rinse well with warm water.  If hair seems too oily, shampoo once more with 1 teaspoon of plain shampoo.

Make Banana Hair Conditioner – Recipe

1 mashed banana
1 tablespoon honey
Mix together the banana and honey until smooth and creamy.  Wet your hair with warm water and massage the conditioner into your hair and scalp.  Wrap your hair in plastic wrap or use a towel around your head, and let the mixture condition your hair for 20 minutes.  Rinse your hair well, and shampoo and condition as usual.  You will notice that your hair seems thicker and your shampoo will really lather.

Yield: 2-3 ounces, enough for 1 treatment
